Brown, Andrzejewski Call for Forensic Audit of State Spending: Flider criticized for voting against forensic audit proposal

Decatur – Decatur City Councilman Adam Brown is joining with conservative reformer and recent gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrzejewski in calling for a comprehensive forensic audit of Illinois’ finances dating back to former Governor Rod Blagojevich’s first-term.

“Illinois taxpayers are demanding accountability from Springfield for how our tax dollars are being spent,” said Brown, the Republican candidate for State Representative in the 101st District.    “This audit would be a major step towards restoring the public’s trust in state government.”

House Resolution 1057 requires the Illinois Auditor General to immediately begin a forensic audit of state spending, hiring, procurement and contracts.  The resolution also asks the Auditor General to review the actions taken by Boards and Commissions as they relate to spending, hiring and contracts during the Blagojevich/Quinn era.

“There is not a person in this state that would say government is running as efficiently as it could be,” Andrzejewski said.  “That is why I am pleased to be working with Adam Brown to make government more efficient, effective and responsible.”

Andrzejewski criticized incumbent Rep. Bob Flider for voting to kill the forensic audit proposal during the spring session of the General Assembly.

“Representative Flider had the chance to stand up for Illinois taxpayers, but he chose to defend the status quo.  This was a conscious decision to vote against spending reforms and more transparency in government and instead vote for continuing the business-as-usual politics that have broken our state,” said Andrzejewski, author of the forensic audit proposal.

Councilman Brown pointed out Rep. Flider’s hypocrisy on the issue of state spending.

“Last week, in a letter full of half-truths and distortions, Bob Flider stated that he was ‘fighting for a line-by-line audit of state spending,’” Brown said.  “Flider forgot to mention that he opposed a forensic audit of state spending back in May.  He also left out the part about how he repeatedly voted for unbalanced budgets and billions of dollars in new debt.  Well Bob, who’s the fiction writer now?”
