Brown Statement on Blagojevich Verdict
Decatur – Adam Brown, Republican candidate for State Representative in the 101st District, released the following statement regarding Tuesday’s verdict in the Rod Blagojevich corruption trial:
“Like most Illinoisans, I am disappointed that Rod Blagojevich was convicted on only one of the many counts against him. However, he has not been found innocent of the remaining 23 counts, which are very serious charges. I am hopeful that a new trial will ensure that justice is served.
“The Blagojevich scandal is about more than just this trial. For six long years, Rod Blagojevich and his legislative allies over-taxed, over-spent, and over-borrowed, driving Illinois to the brink of bankruptcy. Unfortunately, the fiscal mismanagement of this state did not end with Rod Blagojevich’s impeachment.
“The people of Illinois want a clean break from the politics of the past. We need an open and transparent government that is accountable to the taxpayers. We need new leaders who will control spending and hold the line on taxes. And we need to get Illinois working again. Only then will we be able to restore the public’s trust in our government.”
