Decatur City Councilman Adam Brown issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in McDonald v. Chicago, which overturns Chicago’s decades-old handgun ban.

“I applaud today’s Supreme Court decision, which protects the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, regardless of where they live.  For 28 years, the Chicago Machine has infringed on the rights of gun owners, and I’m glad that the Supreme Court stood up for those who only want to protect their families and homes from criminals.  This is a victory for all Illinois residents, because it reaffirms that the ‘Chicago way’ of doing business is wrong for the state and country.  As State Representative, I will strongly oppose the Chicago politicians’ anti-gun agenda and will fight to protect our constitutional rights.”

Adam Brown is the Republican candidate for State Representative in the 101st District.
